Who the hell do you think I am!?

The Manly, Invincible RAC, August 18th 2008

Someone who can post reviews on schedule?

Someone who takes decent photographs?

Nope! But here's my review of Revoltech Gurren Lagann anyway! I really do have to apologize for the quality of the photographs- I'm still experimenting with lighting and camera settings, but I didn't want to delay the review any further.

Anyway! This toy is, as you're about to read, State of the Art. It's far above and beyond its Revoltech predecessors, which I can now say with some small degree of authority since I obeyed my whims and bought the Dougram and King Gainer on the cheap. They're decent, but it's better to be moving forward than back I figure. Our eyes were put in the front of our heads for a reason, after all.

The last couple years, while I'd been enjoying toys, nothing knocked my socks off with that combination of engineering, design, and plain old fun that I look for in a toy. Gurren Lagann had it for me, and I don't remember the last time I was this pleased with a toy. I think it was the GOUF Ignited, but don't quote me.

If you like Revoltech Gurren Lagann, there are ways to make it more awesome. As I mentioned in the review, the Gurren Wing- which you'll see on the SciFi Channel a few weeks down the road- is split between the Lazengann and Viral's Enki. Enki also comes with a helmetless head for Gurren Lagann! Later in the line we'll get Viral's current Gunmen, the Enkidu, and one further upgrade, the Enkidudu. Later on we will also get the indescribable Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann. Don't Google it. Don't read synopses. Let it be a surprise. Trust me on this.

In other robot toy news, you may have read about the new Robot Damashi line from Bandai, which appears to be a further restructuring of the in Action!! lines, presumably to create something to tackle Revoltech. All I can say is that competition is probably good for the market: if Bandai can produce as wide a range of figures with as high an overall quality as Kaiyodo- and it wouldn't be a first for them! -then I can't complain. We'll see, I guess!

Hopefully this will end the review bottleneck for a while, but any even slightly timebound promises I make seem to be cursed, so I promise nothing. Check back for more toys!
